Among all the factors that determine a sapphire's value, heat treatment is perhaps the most consequential. The vast majority of sapphires on the market have been heated at high temperatures to improve colour uniformity: a widely accepted, permanent process that is always declared on the certificate. No heat stones — those that have received no thermal treatment whatsoever — belong to a different category entirely: rarer, more valuable, and appreciating faster over time.
This is one of those sapphires. 2.09 ct of natural corundum variety sapphire from Madagascar, IGI certified (no. 245636807), no heat. Cushion cut, measurements 7.89 × 6.38 × 4.92 mm, deep blue with the velvety saturation that makes African sapphires immediately recognisable. The stone is set within a frame of small sapphires totalling 0.53 ct and diamonds of 0.45 ct E/VS, which amplify its presence without competing with it.
The shank is 18kt yellow gold, hand-engraved along its entire surface with scrolling floral motifs in the Florentine burin tradition. The central setting is 18kt white gold. The bicolour contrast brings out both the warmth of the engraved shank and the cool depth of the stone.
A one-of-a-kind piece. Once sold, it will not be remade.
