Natural sapphire rings: exceptional stones, Italian craftsmanship

natural sapphire ring oval cut handmade in Italy

Few gemstones carry the quiet authority of a natural sapphire. Second only to diamonds in hardness — 9 on the Mohs scale — sapphires are built to last a lifetime on your finger, and their depth of colour only seems to deepen with age. Whether you are looking for a sapphire engagement ring or a statement piece for special occasions, our stones are hand-picked from the world's finest sources: Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Burma (Myanmar), Brazil and Thailand. Most are available in oval and octagonal cuts, though pear and heart shapes are never far behind.

The most iconic sapphire ring of our times? The 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire surrounded by fourteen diamonds that Catherine, Princess of Wales wears every day — once belonging to Princess Diana. A reminder that a sapphire, chosen well, becomes an heirloom.

What does a sapphire symbolise?

Throughout history, sapphires have stood for wisdom, loyalty and protection. Medieval clergy wore them as a sign of heaven; royalty chose them as pledges of fidelity. Today that symbolism translates beautifully into engagement rings and anniversary gifts — a sapphire says something a diamond alone cannot.

Blue, pink, yellow — and beyond

The rich velvety blue is the stone most people picture, but sapphires come in a remarkable range of colours, each with its own personality:

  • Blue sapphire: the classic choice — intense, timeless, universally flattering
  • Pink sapphire: softer and more romantic, a favourite for feminine engagement rings
  • Yellow sapphire: warm and distinctive, stunning set in yellow gold
  • Fancy sapphires (orange, violet, green, teal): rare finds for those who want something truly one-of-a-kind

Browse our collection of certified loose sapphires — each sealed and ready to be set into the ring of your choice.

Where the stones come from

Kashmir sapphires are the undisputed benchmark — their velvety cornflower blue is virtually unmatchable, and genuine specimens are extraordinarily rare. Ceylon sapphires offer brilliant, transparent blues at a broader range of price points. Burmese stones tend toward deeper, more saturated hues. Whatever the origin, every sapphire we sell comes with a gemmological certificate detailing provenance, colour characteristics and any treatments applied.

A note on heat treatment

The vast majority of sapphires on the market have been heat-treated at the rough stage — a widely accepted, permanent process that improves colour consistency without affecting the stone's natural origin, as confirmed by the GIA. Untreated ("no heat") sapphires are considerably rarer and command a premium; they are always identified as such on the certificate.

Bespoke sapphire rings — made in Italy

We are Italian jewellery makers, not retailers: every piece is produced in our own workshop. That means we can build a ring around the sapphire you love, rather than the other way round. Choose your stone from our loose sapphire collection, or bring your own, and we will design the setting together — from a clean four-claw solitaire to a full pavé diamond halo.
